Weekend Wandering in the Blue Mountains
What kind of landscapes do you love?
It's a question we usually ask our couples and families when you reach out to us for a photo adventure session, because even though it's your connection to each other that makes for beautiful images, it's that bit more emotional and memorable when you're grounded in a place that speaks peace to your soul.
I will forever love the salt-soaked, cliff-laced coast, but Juwan feels most at home in the mountains. They may not be the soaring, snow-covered peaks that Juwan grew up loving in Utah but the Blue Mountains have their own special kind of magic, so I decided to take him there for a little adventure one cloudy Saturday morning in February. We rolled out of bed at 4am so we could be at Lincoln's Rock early to escape the crowds and I'm glad we did – we had the whole place to ourselves. It felt kind of surreal to stand atop the rocks and look out across the world below; everything was quiet, still and breathtakingly beautiful. I’m so grateful for moments like this that put things into perspective and refresh my soul. Nature is such a gift and I never want to take it for granted.
Once the tour buses loaded with eager sightseers had begun to arrive, we headed down to Katoomba for a wander through town and brunch at a sweet little plant-based cafe. Pausing to take a peek in op shops and co-ops and eco-living stores, it was the perfect kind of morning.
Sadly (but also gladly!) we had to leave before the sun had even reached the middle of the sky as it was my sweet nephew's first birthday party. But rest assured we will be back for some more exploring in the future, because the mountains will always be calling.
