Carefree Lovers: 4 Ideas to Make your Rainy Day Photo Adventure Epic

Help! What if it rains?

Okay so you’ve decided that you wanna be friends with us and we’ve been excitedly planning your adventure together; we’ve helped you pick the perfect outfits to suit your style; you’re getting super pumped to run wild and explore with your lover; and then you open up your weather app and see that little cloud and droplets icon on your session date. Uh oh, now what? If you’ve chosen us, you’re ready to get a little muddy and are down to mess up your hair but what if there are showers predicted?

Please, don’t stress! We sure love our glowy, backlit photos but we have an equally big space in our hearts for moody, soft light that overcast and rainy days bring.

If thunderstorms or heavy rain are on the cards, then we’ll definitely recommend rescheduling or move indoors (see #4) because a) we care about you and want to keep you safe, b) we need to be able to see you to capture you, and c) our poor (expensive lol) gear doesn’t mix too well with water gushing into it. We generally wait until 24 hours before a session to postpone as you’ve probably noticed how the forecast seems to change every single time you refresh the app.

However, a little sprinkle never hurt anybody! Here are four ideas to help you go ahead with your adventure and make it unforgettable, whilst capturing your connection with each other in a unique, playful and romantic way:

1. Embrace it!

There’s something so magical about dancing, hugging and kissing in the rain. And does it really get any more intimate than droplets on skin, wet hair, and clinging clothes?

2. Go for a splash

If you’re going to get wet, may as well go all the way! If you’re near a body of water and it’s a safe place to swim, let’s do it! Afterwards, you can keep each other warm with cuddles and blankets.

3. Seek shelter

Whether it’s an umbrella, under a tree, a tent, or even your car: we can always find some cover during your adventure, where you can get lost in your own little world with each other.

4. Cosy up indoors

Sometimes your schedule might mean you just can’t postpone, and when there is a storm forecast or you don’t feel comfortable being out in rainy weather, we can always swap your outdoor exploration for a snuggly, indoor sesh. We can make warm drinks, light some candles, throw on some cosy sweaters and blankets, take a warm bath - whatever suits your vibe. If we originally planned for sunset together and you want escape the rain indoors instead, we recommend moving it to the morning/early afternoon so that you get the most beautiful natural light in your home or Airbnb.

Before we head out…

Some extra things to remember if you’re ready to let loose and dance in the rain:

  • Layer up and pack some warm, dry clothes

  • Don’t forget some towels - we usually have some spares in the car, too

  • If you’re wearing make-up, consider some waterproof mascara!

  • Wear shoes with tread so you don’t slip (which we always recommend anyway)
