Sri Lanka to Sydney: Long Distance Lovers // Remesha + Dinuka

Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin with these two. When Remesha first reached out to us for engagement photos, she told us a little bit about her and Dinuka:

“Dinuka (my fiancé) and I are childhood best friends (very similar to you guys ay?!) Two and a half years back we realised we are better as a couple/best friends than as just friends. And last month he proposed (while I was visiting him in Sri Lanka, my home country where we first met) and I said yes!”

From the moment their enquiry dropped into our inbox, I knew we just had to capture their love story. All love is beautiful, but there is something so magical about a relationship that blossoms over time on the foundation of friendship. Add in the long-distance element and it’s like something out of a movie. I was so invested in their story that I felt excited myself the day I knew Dinuka was touching down in Sydney.

When the date of their engagement photo session finally arrived, we felt like we were catching up with old friends. It was during the devastating bushfires and the air was quite smoky but because of the short nature of Dinuka’s Sydney stay, there wasn’t much wiggle room for rescheduling. It made shooting and editing challenging and most of all, sobering, but it was such a joy to be surrounded by the hope and warmth of their love. It just radiates out of them. They are both super kind, hilarious, and driven. Our favourite part was getting to hear more about their love story. We couldn’t stop laughing (and aww-ing) at how before they were dating, Dinuka used to send what he thought were very obvious signals that he wanted to be even more than friends, like sending Remesha little video messages while he was sitting in the car with love songs playing in the background. She maintains that she honestly had no idea that he was trying to tell her something - don’t know how she missed that one, Dinuka! Thankfully they eventually were less subtle with each other and let their relationship grow openly.

And to add another epic chapter to their movie, when all the border closures started being announced a few months ago, Remesha packed up her life in Sydney and flew across the ocean to finally be with Dinuka in their home country. While their wedding planning is currently full of uncertainty because of a particular virus, one thing is for sure: these two were made for each other.
